MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Greetings everyone,

I hope you are all doing well! It was an exciting and productive month of July at the Chamiza Foundation as we prepare for our upcoming Chamiza Foundation Pueblo Symposium, taking place October 22–23 at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. We look forward to bringing together leaders, partners, and community members for two days of meaningful dialogue, collaboration, and learning. To learn more about the symposium and view the draft agenda, please visit our website.

We are also thrilled to be producing the first-ever Chamiza Foundation Legacy Film, which will make its debut during the symposium. In partnership with the acclaimed “No Reservations” production company, this film celebrates the Foundation’s history, mission, and enduring commitment to supporting Pueblo communities. We cannot wait to share this special project with all of you.

If you have any questions about the symposium or would like additional information, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We look forward to seeing you in October!

Sincerely,

Dr. Amanda J. Montoya

End of Summer Celebration

This past March, the Chamiza Foundation was proud to award a grant to the Oo-Oo-Nah Art & Cultural Center in support of its Heritage Garden Project. On July 30, we had the pleasure of attending the project’s end-of-summer celebration and seeing firsthand the incredible impact of this initiative. With guidance from the Taos Pueblo Recovery Works Program and Mr. Carl Concha, the children transformed a small space behind the center into a thriving garden filled with corn, green chili, lettuce, squash, beets, and tomatoes. Their hard work, curiosity, and teamwork were on full display as they proudly shared what they had grown. The celebration concluded with the children receiving participation certificates, offering a heartfelt prayer, and enjoying delicious refreshments prepared by the Oo-Oo-Nah Art & Cultural Center staff. It was a joyful gathering that celebrated not only a successful project, but also the importance of cultural traditions, community collaboration, and hands-on learning for the next generation.
